Setup guide

No activation needed
just insert and go

No real-name verification (KYC), no account, no top-up, no approval wait. Insert → turn on Data Roaming → connect, usually within 5 minutes. Data allowance, SMS-verification platforms and renewal are all below.

⚠️ For travel use only. Please comply with local laws and regulations; use for illegal activities is prohibited and you bear the consequences.

1. Before You Start: What This Card Can Do

If you didn't read carefully before buying, this part matters most

FeaturesSupported?
Mobile data (incl. roaming outside Japan)Supported
Receiving SMS (verification codes, etc.)Supported
Sending SMSNot supported
Making / receiving callsNot supported
⚠️ This is a data + SMS-receiving card with no calling feature. If you need to make calls, it's not for you — please contact support before ordering.

2. Inserting the Card

Plug-and-play in supported countries and regions — no activation, no real-name verification

📲 Bought the eSIM version? Skip step 1 (inserting the card) — support will send you an install QR code via WeChat. On your phone go to "Settings → Cellular / SIM → Add eSIM" and scan it; steps 2–4 are then exactly the same. Support guides you through the whole installation.
⚠️ eSIM works only with overseas phones that have native eSIM (HK / US / JP iPhone, Google Pixel, etc.); mainland-China models do not support it, and it cannot be written to blank cards like esim.me / 5ber. If you don't have an overseas phone with native eSIM, use the physical SIM version instead.

1

Power off and insert the SIM

Remove the tray, insert the SIM in the correct orientation, then power on. The card is a standard 3-in-1; snap it to your phone's tray size.

2

You'll see signal once the card is inserted

After powering on, signal and 4G/5G appear in the status bar automatically. If there's no signal: turn Airplane Mode on for about 3 seconds then off, so the phone re-registers — the most common fix when switching networks across borders.

3

To get online → turn on Data Roaming

This step is required, or you won't get online.

iPhone: Settings → Cellular → select this SIM → turn on Data Roaming
Android: Settings → Mobile network / SIM management → select this SIM → turn on Data Roaming
4

Confirm you're connected

Open any website or app to test. If it loads, you're online. Most phones configure the APN automatically; if it still won't connect after a few minutes, ask support for the APN settings and enter them manually.

⏱ Usually registers on the network within 1–5 minutes of powering on. Cross-border switching can be a bit slower — try toggling Airplane Mode once.

3. Data Allowance & Speed Limits

Resets monthly; stays connected past the cap, just slower

RegionsHigh-speed data per month
Inside Japan3GB / month
Outside Japan (incl. China)1GB / month
After the high-speed allowanceLow-speed network, text chat only
💡 Past the high-speed cap you stay connected but drop to a low-speed network, text chat only; receiving SMS codes still works. Maps, video and file downloads are effectively unusable.

Supported countries / regions

The following countries and regions can use the 1GB/month high-speed data abroad (Japan is not counted here).

ChinaHong KongMacauTaiwanIcelandIrelandUnited States (Hawaii)Continental United StatesUnited Arab EmiratesAndorraUnited KingdomItalyIndiaIndonesiaEstoniaAustraliaAustriaNetherlandsQatarCanadaCambodiaSouth KoreaCyprusGreeceGuadeloupeGuamKuwaitCroatiaSaipanGibraltarSingaporeSwitzerlandSwedenSpainSlovakiaSloveniaThailandCzech RepublicDenmarkGermanyTurkeyNew ZealandNorwayHungaryPhilippinesFinlandBrazilFranceFrench GuianaBulgariaVietnamPeruBelgiumPolandPortugalMaltaMartiniqueMalaysiaSouth AfricaMyanmarMexicoMoroccoLatviaLithuaniaLiechtensteinRomaniaLuxembourgRéunionRussia
💡 The list is provided by the issuer and may change; if unsure before you travel, ask support to confirm.

4. About the Number

This card provides a Japanese 070-prefix mobile number (international format +81 70 ××××××××).

The number is printed on the card packaging; if you can't find or read it, contact the "Support" widget at the bottom right and we'll look it up.

⚠️ We don't recommend using it to receive SMS from mainland +86 numbers. Chinese carriers often block messages to and from overseas numbers and may trigger anti-fraud controls.

5. Verified SMS-Verification Platforms

💡 The list isn't exhaustive. If you find another platform that works, tell support and we'll keep this list updated; if one fails, let us know and we'll help investigate.

6. Can't Receive Verification Codes?

  • First confirm you have signal and can get online (see step 2 above)
  • Check that the platform supports sending SMS to Japanese 070-prefix numbers — some block virtual ranges or specific carriers
  • Enter numbers in international format: country code +81 plus the number without the leading 0
  • If you're behind a proxy / VPN, try a cleaner IP — the most common cause
  • Wait a few minutes and resend; some platforms' SMS gateways are delayed
  • Still stuck? Contact support and we'll help determine whether it's the card or the platform

7. Can't Get Online?

  • Make sure Data Roaming is on — the most common cause
  • Make sure this SIM is set as the card for mobile data (easy to get wrong on dual-SIM phones)
  • Toggle Airplane Mode once, or restart your phone, to re-register on the network
  • Enter the APN manually (ask support for the settings)
  • Make sure your phone isn't carrier-locked (operator-branded phones may not accept other carriers' SIMs)
  • If none of the above works, contact the "Support" widget at the bottom right and we'll help troubleshoot remotely

8. Validity & Renewal

Unused cards don't start counting; the clock starts when you use it

Valid for 12 months from the month of first use. Example: first used in January 2026 → expires January 31, 2027 (month of use + 12 months).

The card fee covers the entire first year, with no monthly fee and no other charges. We'll contact you a month before expiry; choose either method:

  • Option A (recommended): renew through us — ¥289 for a year, pay via WeChat / Alipay; just contact the "Support" widget at the bottom right
  • Option B: renew directly on the official Japanese site — price as listed there (billed in JPY, requires an overseas payment method) — fitsimmarket.benefitjapan.co.jp
  • Renew the same card to keep the same number, with no need to swap cards
💡 See Pricing & Renewal for full cost details.
